I probably should have been working on the loads of backed-up homework, but instead deemed it more important to christen my blogging attempt with a reflective poem which typifies the greater weight of my thoughts these days.
Seeing Through The Rain
He stands alone, with cliffs before
The craggy peaks of turbulence.
Life's sweet marrow evermore-
A gift to glean from lesser sense.
To challenge self, test one's soul
Cast yourself to fate's strong flurry
But with hands bound, freedom stolen
Time prods on, leap to, fear bury.
Heart falls silent, drops start to sting
His weathered face, now red and raw.
He strains to see through torrent's raging,
Masking all he thought he saw.
From high above, all overlooking,
Precipitous drops inspired awe.
Anticipation masked true feeling,
Concealed trepidation inwardly foresaw.
Fleetly falling, the thought descended
Upon his battered, blinded self
That thrill of falling would soon be ended
As body broke on rocky shelf.
Unfettered flight, not desperate dropping
Rallies the soul in happiness.
But how to fly when wings are lacking?
Battle is waged with gravity's press.
Constant glances to front and rear
In hopes of dissuading imminent pain.
A saving angel must be near
He says to self, looking through the rain.
But none were present at the top
When he had the urge to fly.
Instead, alone, he faced the drop,
Witheld his words, suppressed his sigh.
Is reason lost, does angst deceive?
Does desperation twist the mind?
With angelic absence above, believe
A heavenly being in flight may find?
But eyes still wildly wisk the sky,
Hope condenses in heart and head.
For without hope, a prolonged cry,
He's already broken, he's already dead.
So thrilling fall, fearful plunge,
Exciting still, remaining sane,
But dropping yet, existence curbing
His eyes steadfast, looking through the rain.
